Visit an Olive Press
Zakynthos is an island of Olive trees. Where there are Olive trees there have to Olive Presses. These Olive presses serve the local area. They will press not only their own olives but those of the residents living locally. The presses tend to press the olives in return for a small percentage of the olive oil. One such Olive Press is Elies Olive Press located on the road between Volimes and Agios Nikolaos in Askos. This charming little olive press sells authentic products at reasonable prices. The owners will be glad to show you how the olive press works and let you sample their products.
Byzantine Museum
This fascinating Byzantine museum is located just off Dionysis Square in Zakynthos town. Here you will find a treasure trove of masterpieces that were rescued from the 1953 earthquake and fires. A great place to visit when you are visiting the city.
Anofinitria Monastery-ALTERNATIVE THINGS TO DO IN ZAKYNTHOS
Founded in the 15th century this pretty little monastery is worth a visit on your travels. You can see beautiful frescos in the church. It was here in this monastery that St Dionysis , the patron saint of the island, lived out his last years. Located close to the monastery you will find several little tavernas and shops. Fly a Kite -Skinari
The northern most tip of Zakynthos , Skinari is perfect for kite flying. While you are there visit the lighthouse and little windmill. If you time this visit perfectly you will be able to see the most amazing sunsets over the neighbouring island of Kefalonia.
Stone Park -Askos
The stone park in Askos is a quirky little attraction only a few miles from beautiful Agios Nikolaos. This is a pretty basic little animal park but great if you enjoy feeding animals and learning about indigenous flora and fauna. We suggest you visit early morning or evening as there is little shade.
