SAVE MONEY WHEN BOOKING FLIGHTS- OUR TOP 5 TIPS
With our family based in England and our villa business on the beautiful Greek Island of Zakynthos we have to book a lot of flights. We have found a number of ways to keep the costs of flights as low as possible. Here are out top 5 suggestions:
BOOK THE FLIGHTS ON RELEASE DAY
Airlines such as Easy Jet release their flights in bundles throughout the year. We suggest following them on social media so you can see the release dates. The booking system usually opens at 6.00 am. so it is worth setting your alarm early and jumping on line. Of course thereβs no guarantee that the flights will be at their cheapest then as its all down to supply and demand but it in our experience it is normally the case
USE A PLATFORM SUCH AS SKYSCANNER
We always check out our flights on Skyscanner. We find this one of the best platforms to be able to see clearly the cheapest flights on offer on the route you are looking at.
TRAVEL IN LOW SEASON
Of course this isnβt always possible if you have children of school age but if you can fly out of season then there are great bargains to be had. The weather in places such as Greece is often more manageable in the shoulder season with the added benefit of quieter beaches!
GO HAND LUGGAGE ONLY
If you are flying to a hot destination such as the Greek islands, then it really is very easy to pack light. We never take a suitcase now when we travel to Zakynthos. A huge saving can be made by not purchasing hold luggage. The low key lifestyle means there is no need to pack a different outfit for every night and itβs very easy to get everything into a wheelie duffle bag. We also love the added convenience of not having to queue at the airport either end to check in luggage and wait for it to arrive on the luggage carousels.
WATCH OUT FOR COOKIES
Now we are not talking the chocolate chip variety sadly but more the annoying little gremlins that sit inside search engines waiting to bump up the price of your ticket. This is something we have only recently discovered and we really want to spread the word on this one. After you have searched for flights a few times in your web browser some flights can effectively go up in price on your computer. It is a sort of supply and demand model that many airlines are now using and we think it sucks. We suggest a number of ways around this. You can search for flights on your phone but book on your PC. Alternatively put your computer into Private Browsing Mode.
These are just a few ideas that we have found to be useful when booking our flights from the UK to Zakynthos. If you are clever about it you can get some great deals and feel smug that you have are not only incredibly organised but have saved a bit of cash too. Good Luck!
